Along Golden Paths — Malostranské Square, Prague

A performative walk, film screening and gathering in central Prague tracing the history of escapes and arrivals of people of various nationalities. The work draws on historical sources, essays by George Orwell and memories of the creators.

The creative team believes that the path to human dignity runs through specific stories and shared experience of how history affects ordinary people regardless of nationality, ethnicity or belief. Over several stops, participants pass through places connected with the arrival of Jewish communities in the early Middle Ages, the formation of the Jewish town, their repeated migration before antisemitism, and the expulsion of the German population after World War II.

The second part bridges these historical stops to the present - to Palestine, to people with nowhere to escape, and to the largest humanitarian and refugee crisis in history according to the UN. The project shows how empathy for war refugees and civilians from war-affected countries mixes in today's society with fear, uncertainty and politically-fueled concerns.
