Sleepy Hollow

Tim Burton drew inspiration from German Expressionism and Hammer horror films of the 1950s featuring Christopher Lee and Vincent Price when creating this film. He works not only with a literary legend but also with the tradition of cinematic horror. The visual concept was drawn from Dutch painters and American artist Albert Pinkham Ryder (1847-1917). The result is a closed, dark world of a village paralyzed by fear, surrounded by hostile forests, where the grave of the Headless Horseman lies hidden.

Young constable Ichabod Crane, an advocate of scientific methods and rational thinking, is sent in 1799 to the village of Sleepy Hollow - a settlement inhabited mostly by Dutch immigrants - to investigate a series of mysterious murders. The locals are convinced that a legendary Headless Horseman is behind them. Crane does not believe in superstitions and searches for a conspiracy among the local gentry.

But when he witnesses further murders committed by the terrifying horseman and finds himself caught in strange enchantments, he must admit that not everything can be explained by reason.
