Vojtěch Štěpánek (born 4 April 1984, Prague) is a Czech theatre director, playwright and actor. He trained at the Prague State Conservatory and built his career at Strašnické divadlo before becoming director of Prague's Divadlo Komedie, where he shaped the company's focus on Eastern European drama. Since 2018 he has led the drama ensemble of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava, and he is a recurring director at the Summer Shakespeare Festival.
Štěpánek's production of The Comedy of Errors opened on June 24, 2026 at the Highest Burgraviate of Prague Castle, inaugurating the 29th Summer Shakespeare Festival; the sold-out premiere received prolonged applause.
In February 2026, the Czech premiere of Ferdinand von Schirach's play God took place at NDM in Štěpánek's production - a courtroom drama about the human right to a dignified death.
In October/November 2025, Štěpánek presented the Czech premiere of the comedy Cardinal Error (Beaton, Jacobs) at NDM, which critics called brilliant.
In March 2025, Štěpánek directed Gogol's The Gamblers at the Ostrava Mir Theatre; the premiere on March 15 received a standing ovation.
In September 2024, Štěpánek began his seventh season as head of the drama department at NDM and stated in an interview that he has the best working conditions of his entire career.
