Tigran Hamasyan (born 1987, Gyumri, Armenia) is a pianist, composer and singer whose music weaves jazz improvisation together with Armenian folk and sacred traditions, progressive rock and electronics. He won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition in 2006 and the Montreux Jazz Festival piano competition in 2003. Over more than two decades he has released over ten albums on Verve, ECM, Nonesuch and Naïve, ranging from intimate solo piano to large-scale transmedia projects.
Hamasyan released the album Manifeste (Naïve Records, February 6, 2026), recorded in 2023-2025 in studios in Yerevan, Athens, Moscow, and Los Angeles.
On the Manifeste tour in February and March 2026, Hamasyan performed in New York, Cincinnati, Seattle, and San Francisco.
In August 2024, the double album The Bird of a Thousand Voices (Naïve) was released, a transmedia project inspired by the Armenian folk tale Hazaran Blbul, which includes a 2D video game.
The world premiere of the stage version of the project The Bird of a Thousand Voices took place on June 8, 2024 at the Holland Festival in Amsterdam.
In April 2022, Hamasyan released the album StandArt on Nonesuch Records, his first project dedicated to American jazz standards, recorded with Joshua Redman, Mark Turner, and Ambrose Akinmusire.
