Stephen King is an American author best known for horror and suspense fiction, with a career stretching back to the early 1970s. He has written over sixty novels, many of them adapted for film or television. The Shawshank Redemption is based on his novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, published in the 1982 collection Different Seasons - proof that King's storytelling works just as well without the supernatural.
