Nirvana was an American rock band from Aberdeen, Washington, active from 1987 to 1994. Fronted by Kurt Cobain alongside bassist Krist Novoselic and drummer Dave Grohl, they became the defining act of the grunge movement and sold over 75 million records worldwide. Their 1991 album Nevermind - and its lead single Smells Like Teen Spirit - reshaped mainstream rock almost overnight. The band dissolved after Cobain's death in April 1994; Grohl went on to form Foo Fighters.
