Folklore Without Borders
An international folklore festival featuring traditional costumes, music and dance from around the world.
Moravský folklórní soubor Ševčík is one of the oldest active folk ensembles in the North Moravian region, founded on 21 May 1950 as a youth collective and renamed after Ladislav Ševčík nine months later. Based at the Akord cultural centre in Ostrava-Zábřeh, the ensemble focuses on dances, songs and folk customs from the Moravian Wallachia region, particularly its southern part. Performances are accompanied by the cimbalom band Úsměv; over its history the ensemble has toured Europe and overseas, representing the Czech Republic at an international festival in Brazil in 2018.
The Ševčík-MFS ensemble participated in the 27th edition of the international festival Folklor bez hranic Ostrava (August 11-15, 2025) as one of the traditional local performers.
In 2025, the ensemble celebrates the 75th anniversary of its founding; the anniversary concert took place at the House of Culture Akord in Ostrava.
The ensemble organized the 65th edition of the traditional Wallachian Ball in Ostrava.
Ševčík-MFS performed at the 26th edition of the festival Folklor bez hranic Ostrava, which was attended by a total of 29 ensembles and over 459 performers.
