Mikhail Bulgakov (1891–1940) was a Russian writer and playwright known for his satirical and fantastical works critiquing Soviet society. He gained worldwide fame with the novel The Master and Margarita. The novella Heart of a Dog (1925) is one of his most celebrated satirical works.
