Maroš Potokár (born 1982 in Košice) is a Slovak conductor and violinist regarded as one of the most prominent figures of his generation in Slovak classical music. He studied violin and conducting at the Košice Conservatory, the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU) and the Janáček Academy in Brno, and attended a masterclass with Zsolt Nagy of the Paris Conservatory. Since 2007 he has been concertmaster of the Slovak State Philharmonic Košice; from the 2021/22 season he served as assistant to chief conductor Vasilij Sinaisky at the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, and he appears as a guest conductor with orchestras including the Slovak Philharmonic, Prague Philharmonia and Brno Philharmonic. Since 2014 he also leads the chamber orchestra Musica Cassovia as artistic director.
At the Slovak National Theatre, he musically prepared a new production of the opera Hänsel und Gretel by E. Humperdinck (presented under the title Perníková chalúpka) - his first own opera production at the SNT.
He is listed among the guest conductors of the 77th season of the Slovak Philharmonic in Bratislava (2025/2026).
After a successful competition, he held the position of assistant to chief conductor Vasilij Sinajský at the Janáček Philharmonic in Ostrava, where he participated in a number of concert projects.
He performs as choir master of the Košice Teachers' Singing Choir at concerts of the State Philharmonic Košice as part of the festivals Nová slovenská hudba and ARS NOVA.
