Karel Šedin

About

Karel Šedina is a wood-carver and nativity-scene maker from Bechyně, part of a five-generation family of craftsmen with roots in the Šumava region. He has spent his life carving figures from linden wood, with his most personal work being the Blatský betlém - a large scene depicting a year of rural life in South Bohemia. Since 2016 he has been building a passion nativity together with his son Libor, a work unique in its scale in the Czech Republic.

A monumental Passion nativity carved by the Šedin family depicts the final fifty days of Jesus Christ's life with over two hundred figures. This unique masterpiece is one of the world's largest and visitors can enjoy guided tours directly from its creators.
