🎤 Josef Šimůnek

Josef Šimůnek (1926-2002) was a sculptor and graphic artist from Louny whose career was closely tied to museum work. He directed the regional museum in Louny from 1953 to 1970, and in 1963 set up a gallery department there that eventually became the Galerie Benedikta Rejta. Alongside his own sculptures, prints and ceramics, he worked as a conservator restoring wooden and stone monuments across north-west Bohemia. The city of Louny awarded him honorary citizenship in 2006.
