Joe Orton (1933–1967) was a British playwright known for his darkly comic and provocative farces that satirised social hypocrisy and authority. His best-known works include Entertaining Mr Sloane, Loot, and What the Butler Saw. He died at 34, murdered by his partner Kenneth Halliwell.
