PhDr. Jan Benda, Ph.D. (born 1974, Ústí nad Labem) is a Czech psychologist and psychotherapist who has run a private practice since 2006, specialising in the integration of mindfulness and self-compassion into psychotherapy. He developed his own framework called Mindfulness-Informed Integrative Psychotherapy and spent part of his life as a Buddhist monk in Sri Lanka - an experience that shaped his clinical thinking. He is the author of Všímavost a soucit se sebou (Portál, 2019) and Všímavost a Já (Portál, 2024), the latter published internationally by Routledge and Schattauer in 2025.
The book Mindfulness and I was published in 2025 in English translation by Routledge and in German translation by Schattauer.
In September 2025, Jan Benda launched a two-year postgraduate training in Mindfulness-Informed Integrative Psychotherapy (MIIP) for experienced psychotherapists.
On ResearchGate in March 2025, his presentation How Mindfulness Changes the Perception of the World: A Constructivist-Phenomenological Perspective in Psychotherapy was published.
In 2024, the publisher Portál released his second book Mindfulness and I, which integrates insights from neuroscience, psychedelic research, and Buddhist psychology.
