About

Gregor Johann Mendel (1822–1884) was a Moravian Augustinian friar and naturalist whose experiments with pea plants at his monastery in Brno laid the foundations of genetics. His laws of heredity, formulated in the 1860s, went largely unrecognised during his lifetime but are now cornerstones of modern biology.
