Velen is a folk dance and song ensemble from Boskovice, founded in 1951, preserving folk songs, dances and costumes from the Boskovice part of the Drahanská vrchovina, Malá Haná and Horácko regions. It took its name from a legend about the founding of the town of Boskovice and has toured abroad since the 1960s, including France, Germany, Austria, Turkey and Denmark. Its children's branch, Borověnka, was established in autumn 1991 and named after the first dance the children learned. Both ensembles regularly perform together at regional festivals and folklore reviews in and around Boskovice.
The Velen and Borovenska ensembles will perform at the new Velen festivals in Boskovice, which replace the former Goose festivals.
Both ensembles performed at the Boskovice Christmas fair, Borovenska in the afternoon and Velen in the evening before the tree lighting.
Velen accompanied the program of the Boskovice Goose festivals together with concerts by No Name, Kamelot, and Xindla X.
The Velen ensemble performed the final show of the repeatedly sold-out production Vojna after its premiere the previous year.
