Édouard Louis (born Eddy Bellegueule in 1992 in Hallencourt, Picardy) is a French writer whose autobiographical novels on class, violence and family memory have placed him among the most prominent voices in European literature. His debut En finir avec Eddy Bellegueule (2014), depicting a childhood in the impoverished working-class north of France, became an international bestseller. His seven novels - from Histoire de la violence to L'Effondrement - have been translated into more than thirty languages and adapted for stage and screen.
Édouard Louis works as Global Writer in Residence at NYU, where he leads a seminar on literature and class and holds public lectures on English translations of the novels Monique Escapes and Collapse.
The publisher Éditions Points Seuil released an eight-volume box set with the complete works of Édouard Louis.
The essay Que faire de la littérature? Méditations et Manifeste (Flammarion) was published, Louis's first theoretical text on literature in the form of conversations with Mary Kairidi.
The novel L'Effondrement (Seuil, October 2024) won the Prix littéraire Les Inrockuptibles 2024.
In April 2024, the novel Monique s'évade (Seuil) was published, dedicated to the story of Louis's mother and her escape from poverty and patriarchal violence.
