MIKULOVE 2026
Two-day festival of alternative and experimental music featuring Czech and Slovak bands, theatre, slam poetry, and exhibitions in the Mikulov amphitheatre.
Dunaj is an alternative rock band from Brno, formed in the 1980s, who returned after a 24-year silence with the album Za vodou (2022), which received a pre-nomination for the Czech Anděl Awards. The current lineup - guitarists and vocalists Vladimír Václavek and Josef Ostřanský plus drummer Pavel Koudelka - lost its original frontman Jiří Kolšovský to an early death in 1998. In 2023 the band brought in Jana Vébrová, a singer-songwriter and self-taught accordionist from the Lužické hory region of northern Bohemia, whose second solo album Kameny ze dna (2023) also earned an Anděl pre-nomination. Together they recorded Mňau (April 2025) at Birdland Studios in Bratislava, with all four credited as co-authors.
Dunaj and Jana Vébrová released a joint album Mňau on April 18, 2025 at the Animal Music publishing house; the album was christened at the Prague Palace Akropolis and the next day at the Brno Flédě.
A review on Seznam Zprávách called Vébrová a wild element of the album and wrote that she rather adopted Dunaj.
The album Mňau contains eight compositions, whose lyrics were created mainly in collaboration between Jana Vébrová and writer Radek Malý; two lyrics were written by Karel David and one by Vladimír Václavek.
The band Dunaj and Jana Vébrová performed at the Colour Meeting 2025 festival.
The album Za vodou, Dunaj's first studio album in 26 years, received a nomination for the Ceny Anděl 2022 award in the Album and Alternativa categories.
