Dora Kaprálová (born 25 May 1975 in Brno) is a Czech writer, journalist and documentary author based in Berlin since 2007. She studied dramaturgy and screenwriting at JAMU in Brno and made her prose debut with the novella Zimní kniha o lásce (2014). Her prose work Mariborská hypnóza (Větrné mlýny, 2025) won two Magnesia Litera awards in 2026 - Book of the Year and the Luxor Litera for prose - followed shortly by the European Union Prize for Literature. Her writing returns repeatedly to themes of displacement, memory and everyday life in a foreign city.
Kaprálová received the European Union Prize for Literature for the novel Mariborská hypnóza; the winner was announced at the International Book Fair in Warsaw.
At the 25th annual Magnesie Litery competition at the Stavovský Theatre in Prague, Kaprálová received two prizes at once - Book of the Year and Luxor Litera for prose.
Kaprálová is appearing as an ambassador for the literary festival Knižní lázně 2026 in Mariánské Lázně (June 18-21).
The author will be the main guest at the Frankfurt Book Fair, as announced by the chairman of the Magnesia Litera Prize Committee.
The publishing house Větrné mlýny published the novella Mariborská hypnóza, which soon received a reprint and became the basis for a radio broadcast on ČRo Vltava.
