Czech Ensemble Baroque is a Czech period-instrument ensemble founded in 1998 by conductor Roman Válek. It comprises an orchestra, a vocal ensemble and soloists drawn from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and Germany. The ensemble focuses on Baroque and Classical repertoire, with a particular mission to rehabilitate neglected Czech composers F. X. Richter and F. I. Tůma through world-premiere recordings on Supraphon. It performs at major festivals including Prague Spring, Rheingau Musik Festival and Opéra Baroque Beaune, and serves as resident ensemble of the Znojmo Music Festival.
Czech Ensemble Baroque presented in co-production with the National Theatre of Moravian Silesia and the Znojmo Music Festival a staged performance of Handel's opera Giulio Cesare in Egitto with Andreas Scholl and Valer Sabadus in the leading roles.
As part of the 13th season of the Bach to Mozart! cycle, Czech Ensemble Baroque performed in the Brno Besední dům together with the newly formed choir Silentium! ensemble with a program dedicated to Purcell, Corelli and Handel.
The album Vesperae (Supraphon, November 2024) received a positive review in the January issue of Gramophone magazine.
Czech Ensemble Baroque released the fourth album dedicated to F. I. Tůma at Supraphon - Vesperae - with liturgical compositions from the composer's late creative period, most of which were heard in world premiere.
Choir director Tereza Válková, who led the vocal ensemble Czech Ensemble Baroque in 2008-2024, left and in 2025 founded her own ensemble Silentium! ensemble.
