Bernard Shaw (1856–1950) was an Irish playwright, essayist and critic, one of the most prominent writers in the English language. His play Pygmalion (1913) follows phonetics professor Higgins as he attempts to transform cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a refined lady. Shaw was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1925.
