Alfa Mist
London nu-jazz pianist and producer Alfa Mist blends hip-hop grooves with pure jazz improvisation. A concert within the JazzFestBrno festival.
Alfa Mist, born Alfa Sekitoleko, is a pianist, producer, composer and MC from the London borough of Newham, of Ugandan descent. He came to jazz through hip-hop - teenage grime beat-making led him to the samples of Madlib, J Dilla and Blackstar, and from there to the piano. Across six studio albums from Antiphon (2017) to Roulette (2025), he has become one of the most distinctive voices in British contemporary jazz, while also running his own Sekito label and collaborating with artists including Richard Spaven, Jordan Rakei and Yussef Dayes.
On October 3, 2025, Alfa Mist released his sixth solo album Roulette on his own label Sekito - a conceptual sci-fi record about reincarnation in a dystopian future, accompanied by a comic.
In November 2025, Alfa Mist performed as a headliner at London's Royal Albert Hall.
In March 2025, Alfa Mist together with drummer Richard Spaven under the project 44th Move released the debut album Anthem on the Black Acre label, which combines jazz with hip-hop, techno and drum and bass.
In 2024, he released the live album Recurring (Live at King's Place), capturing his performance with the Manchester string quartet Amika Quartet.
Alfa Mist will start his European Roulette tour in February 2026 - the first stop on the continent will be Prague (MeetFactory, February 7, 2026).
