Libochovice Chateau ranks among the most important early Baroque buildings in Bohemia and has been a national cultural monument since 2002. Its current form dates from 1682-1690, when Italian architect Antonio della Porta rebuilt an older Renaissance castle for Gundakar of Dietrichstein. The interiors hold collections of tapestries, glass and porcelain, and the guided tour focuses on the last noble owners - the Herberstein family. The chateau is also the birthplace of naturalist Jan Evangelista Purkyně, with a dedicated permanent exhibition. A large park with a French garden completes the grounds.
