Kratochvíle Castle

Netolice

About the venue

Kratochvíle château stands 2 km northwest of Netolice - a Renaissance hunting lodge built in 1583-1589 for Vilém of Rožmberk to designs by the Italian architect Balthasar Maggi of Arogno. Surrounded by a moat and a formal garden, the villa survived largely in its original Rožmberk-era form because later owners - the Eggenbergs and Schwarzenbergs - showed little interest in it. The interiors, with their Mannerist paintings and stucco decoration, are complemented by an exhibition of Czech puppet and animated film featuring works by Jiří Trnka, Hermína Týrlová and Karel Zeman. The château is administered by the National Heritage Institute.
