About the venue

The early Baroque castle in Holešov was built after 1650 to designs by imperial architect Filiberto Luchese for Count Jan of Rottal, replacing a Renaissance residence that had been devastated during the Thirty Years' War. Under the Rottal family it became one of Moravia's cultural hubs - Italian Baroque opera was performed here and composer František Xaver Richter spent time at the court. Guided tours take in the sala terrena with its elaborate stucco decoration, the grand hall, the castle chapel and a gallery. The grounds include a large French-style park with a canal network laid out in the shape of Neptune's trident.
