Boskovice Synagogue

Boskovice

About the venue

The Synagoga maior on Traplova Street is the only surviving synagogue in Boskovice's Jewish quarter. The Baroque building dates from 1639, built by Italian-born master Sylvestr Fiota and enlarged in 1698; its vaults and walls are covered with frescoes and Hebrew liturgical texts, the work of Polish Jewish refugees from the late 17th and 18th centuries. Restored between 1989 and 2001, it is now run by the Muzeum regionu Boskovicka and holds a permanent exhibition on the local Jewish community alongside seasonal art shows, concerts and theatre performances.
