Estates Theatre

Prague

About the venue

The Estates Theatre (Stavovské divadlo) is a neoclassical theatre on Ovocný trh square in Prague, opened in 1783 as the Count Nostitz Theatre. It is one of the oldest continuously operating theatres in Central Europe and the only surviving theatre where W. A. Mozart worked – on 29 October 1787 he personally conducted the world premiere of Don Giovanni here. In 1834 the song Kde domov můj, later the Czech national anthem, was heard here for the first time. Today it is one of the four stages of the National Theatre, hosting opera, drama and ballet.
