About the venue

Hrubý Rohozec château stands on a rock above the Jizera river on the north-western edge of Turnov. The original early-Gothic castle was built after 1300 and was gradually rebuilt in Renaissance, Baroque and Empire styles - its present appearance dates from the 1820s, when architect Jan Filip Joendl gave it classicist plasterwork. From 1628 it served as the ancestral seat of the French noble family Des Fours Walderode, who held it until confiscation in 1945. Visitors can tour more than thirty furnished rooms, including a library with a portrait gallery, a Neo-Gothic dining hall and a Baroque chapel of the Holy Trinity; the grounds include an English landscape park with a romantic artificial grotto. The château has been a national cultural monument since 2002.
