State Castle Červená Lhota

Kardašova Řečice

About the venue

Červená Lhota State Castle is a Renaissance water castle in South Bohemia, set on a rocky islet in the middle of a pond and reached by a stone bridge. The original Gothic fortress is documented in writing from 1465; its current Renaissance form dates from after 1530 under knight Jan Kába of Rybňany, with Baroque modifications carried out after 1641 by Vilém Slavata. From 1835 the castle was owned by the princes Schönburg-Hartenstein, who had it rebuilt in Neo-Renaissance style in 1903–1913. A national cultural monument since 2001, its first-floor interiors present the authentic apartment of the last owners as it looked around 1910. The castle holds the record for the most fairy-tale films shot on its grounds.
