Nové Hrady

About the venue

Nové Hrady State Castle is a Gothic castle on a rocky spur above the Stropnice stream, first documented in 1279. It was held by the Vítkovci clan, the Rosenbergs, and from 1619 by the Buquoy family until 1945. The castle is notable for its unusual through-passage layout with two gateways and a massive dry moat. Since 2000 it has been administered by the National Heritage Institute and offers guided tours through Buquoy-era interiors, a portrait gallery, and a collection of unique black hyalite glass. The courtyard hosts open-air concerts and theatre in summer.
