Šimkovy Sady

Hradec Králové

About the venue

Šimkovy sady is the largest park in Hradec Králové, covering 18 hectares. It was laid out between 1932 and 1935 to a plan by Josef Gočár in the English landscape style, with two artificial ponds crossed by footbridges. The southern edge follows the line of preserved fortress ramparts. The park is named after Karel Šimek, a scout and resistance fighter shot by the Nazis in April 1945 near the park. A major renovation completed in 2014 added cycling and inline-skating paths, children's playgrounds, and a rotunda café by the pond.
