Summer Palace Ostrov

Ostrov

About the venue

This early Baroque summer palace in the middle of Ostrov's castle park was built between 1673 and 1683 for the Dukes of Saxe-Lauenburg to a design by Prague master builder Abraham Leuthner. The interiors are decorated with illusionistic wall frescoes and stucco from the 1690s, attributed to Italian masters including Domenico Egidio Rossi. Since 1961 the building has housed a gallery - now a branch of the Galerie umění Karlovy Vary - focusing on Czech drawing and printmaking of the 20th century, with seasonal thematic exhibitions and a permanent display of porcelain from the SUPŠ Karlovy Vary collection.
