Historic Building

Český Těšín

About the venue

The Historical Building of the Těšínsko Museum stands on Hlavní třída in Český Těšín. The neo-classicist house was built in 1885-1886 by local architect Alois Jedek as his private residence; its richly decorated facade, stone-balustrade balconies and stucco-adorned vaulted passages make it one of the finest historicist buildings in this part of the city. The museum has occupied the premises since 1951, and after a full renovation in 2018-2019 it reopened in June 2020 with a new permanent exhibition tracing the history of Těšín Silesia from prehistory to recent times. The building also houses a lecture hall, a children's play area, the Silesia library reading room and a courtyard lapidarium.
