Bolevec Pond

Pilsen

About the venue

Velký Bolevecký rybník - known to locals simply as Bolevák - sits on the northern edge of Plzeň and, at around 53 hectares, is the largest pond in the Bolevec system. It was created around 1461, making it one of the oldest surviving ponds in the Pilsen Region. Sandy beaches along the northern and eastern shores make it the city's main swimming spot; in the 19th century, Pilsner Urquell harvested ice here to cool its beer. Two sailing clubs are based on the bank, and the summer festival Prázdniny na Boleváku takes place here every year.
