About the venue

The Basilica of the Assumption of Mary and Saints Cyril and Methodius in Velehrad ranks among the most important pilgrimage sites in Central Europe. A Cistercian monastery was founded here in the 13th century; the current baroque church dates from the late 17th and early 18th century. Tens of thousands of pilgrims gather here each year, above all on the feast of Cyril and Methodius on 5 July.
