First Republic Swimming Pool Area (Dr. Kafka Embankment)

Volyně

About the venue

The open-air swimming pool in Volyně was built between 1939 and 1941 to a design by Prague architect Václav Kolátor, and its original fabric has survived intact - the wooden changing cabins, showers and the 18 × 50 m concrete pool are all still as they were. Water is drawn directly from the Volyňka river. In 2008 the Ministry of Culture listed it as a protected monument, recognising it as the only surviving facility of its kind in the country. Alongside swimming, the site regularly hosts concerts and festivals.
