What is it like to grow up in a city where traces of recent conflicts are omnipresent and in places still bubble to the surface today in street fights? The charismatic principal of Holy Cross Boys' Primary School believes that bad things happen, but what matters is how we respond to them. He uses discussion as his main teaching method, following Plato's example. With his students, he addresses what anxiety, aggression and fear are, and how to process these emotions through short philosophical exercises. According to him, it is crucial for Belfast students to know and understand the past in order to live better in the present. But can children really be taught mutual respect in such a divided city?
