In the seventh grade came together various types: a talented footballer but poor student Kulík, a diligent Mazánek, top student Chalupová and many others. Student Vaněk is a gifted musician, but learning is not his strength. After a poor mid-term report card his father sells the piano, which leads the son away from his studies. However, the perceptive young professor Voříšek becomes convinced of the boy's talent and persuades his father otherwise. The good-natured professor of natural sciences Matulka is once angered by student mischief to such an extent that he suffers a breakdown. This event affects the students deeply. When they additionally discover that due to stage fright Matulka has not yet passed his state exams and is therefore poorly paid, they devise a plan to help the professor...
