In the compartment of an American express train settles Dr. James Porter, who is transporting a check for one million dollars from Chicago to San Fernando, and begins reading a comic book. - Two gangs of gangsters begin to compete for the valuable check. The brown boys from San Boniga are led by José Manuel Antonio and the gang from Chicago is led by the tough Kate Draxlová. In the small town of Springtown, teacher Georg Camel is meanwhile unsuccessfully trying to gain the respect of his students. Georg also acts like a simpleton in the office of the local newspaper, where he tries to establish his verses. He does not know that the sudden interest shown to him by the charming editor Sabrina is meant to provoke the jealousy of cartoonist Henry. But then a turn occurs. Porter, who unexpectedly gets off in Springtown, dies on the threshold of Camel's room in the boarding house of the affected Mrs. Harrington. Innocent and naive Georg is drawn into a battle between both gangster bands and is considered a murderer, especially when a corpse falls out at him every time he opens a door. Sabrina thinks that Georg is killing out of love for her so she will have something to write about. Harrington is convinced that Camel wants to destroy the reputation of her house. After Georg ends up in underground garages, where both gangs shoot each other, he is declared a hero and cleared of all suspicion. - Porter finishes reading the comic with satisfaction. But when he opens the door of his compartment, a dead conductor falls on him.
