What's Wrong with You, Girl?
Original title: Kaj ti je deklica
- Genre: Drama
- Country: Slovenia · Italy · Croatia · Serbia
- Runtime: 89 min
Lucia is a shy sixteen-year-old girl growing up under the watchful eye of her mother. The Catholic choir she joins is meant to contribute to her proper and virtuous upbringing. During a summer retreat in the picturesque setting of an Italian monastery, however, her path crosses with the spirited Ana-Maria and a dark-eyed restorer. Nature is in full bloom, the air filled with the scent of flowering roses, and Lucia discovers the previously unknown language of her own body, which is in direct conflict with ecclesiastical chastity and her naively pure faith. Are the grapes of our sins truly so sour even in the moment when we break free from ancient values and listen to ourselves? Urška Djukić's feature debut, with its intensified visual imagination, may recall the films of Céline Sciamma, her sensual and inventive style in which Christian symbolism intertwines with pure physicality, yet it reveals a distinctive vision of the world and one of the greatest promises of young European cinema.
- Director: Urška Djukić
