Brno Modern - The Best of Interwar Architecture

In the 1920s and 1930s, Brno was one of the major centres of modern architecture - the first functionalist buildings appeared in prestigious European publications of the time. This walk through the city centre traces the work of architects who gave Brno its modern character.

The route showcases works by Bohuslav Fuchs, Ernst Wiesner and other key figures of the interwar period. You will see the Avion Hotel, the House of Arts, the Moravian Bank, the Alfa Palace (arcade), Zeman's Café and other buildings bearing the influence of Le Corbusier and Adolf Loos. You will learn why Brno became a centre of modern architecture, what technical innovations were used in the buildings, and how the principles of spatial design evolved.

The walk ends inside Sedláček's Café. Led by Anna Korbášová, the meeting point is in the foyer of the House of Arts in Brno at Malinov Square 2. Organised by the Brno Architectural Manual (BAM).
