There Were Five of Us (Back Then)

A theatrical adaptation of Karel Poláček's humorous novel, directed by Petr Vacek for Divadlo Na Jezerce. The story follows a group of friends now in their retirement years, but the central character Petr Bajza did not live to see it. He appears only in the memories of the remaining four - and each time Martin Leták brings him on stage, the performance shifts back sixty years to the interwar period.

The audience will enjoy classic scenes from Poláček's original work: the provocations of Mr. Fajst, boyish pranks, adventures with old Zilvar's artificial leg, and the famous circus visit. And of course, there will be India. Jan Hrušínský, Jan Čenský, Petr Čtvrtníček, and Václav Tobrman play the aged companions who have nonetheless retained their youthful spirit - especially when the hated Habrovaks are just in the next room.
