Description was written before the event

In pre-war Europe, twenty-two-year-old Czech composer and conductor Vítězslava Kaprálová travels to study at the prestigious Paris Conservatoire. Her letters reveal student years filled with creative passion and fears of forced exile - in Paris she creates her greatest works, though her creative journey is cut short by sudden death.

The compositions she wrote over just a few years continue to resonate on concert stages worldwide. In the film we hear them performed by soloists Adam Plachetka and Steven Isserlis, conductor Alena Hron, and also at schools including the École Normale de Musique de Paris, where Kaprálová studied nearly a century ago.

The film is a portrait of the composer and a reflection on creative legacy, identity, and the obstacles women in classical music continue to face today.
