Melancholia

Danish director Lars von Trier's film Melancholia follows two sisters - Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg. The younger of them is getting married when a collision between Earth and a red planet that has emerged from behind the sun begins to threaten the countryside estate where the wedding celebration is taking place.

Trier is known for precisely calibrated tension, unexpected twists, and even more unexpected endings, as well as demanding work with actors. Kirsten Dunst, known from Spider-Man and Marie Antoinette, plays alongside Charlotte Gainsbourg, who impressed critics and audiences in Trier's previous film Antichrist.
