Bernard doesn't want to leave his mistress Brigitte alone on her birthday, so he invites her to the countryside, where he regularly spends weekends with his wife Jacqueline. To explain her presence somehow, he also invites his friend Robert - intending to introduce him as Brigitte's lover. But he doesn't know that Robert is his own wife's lover. And as if that weren't enough, Jacqueline has hired a maid for the weekend who is also named Brigitte.

Marc Camoletti's comedy premiered in Paris in 1985, where it achieved over 900 performances. It has been translated into many languages, French television broadcast a recording of it, and in London it played under the title Don't dress for dinner - there too with more than 400 performances.
