Looking for Czechoslovakia

Looking for Czechoslovakia is a documentary theatre project created by John Álvarez and Samuel Černuško - a Chilean set designer and director and a young Slovak director who met while studying in Prague. Together they travelled through Czechia, Slovakia, Ukraine and Chile, collecting traces of what remained of Czechoslovakia.

The production combines documentary elements, fiction and fantasy, exploring identity, borders and the meaning of a country that ceased to exist. The stage features objects, photographs, videos and stories from their journeys.

"This is not a nostalgic project. We believe that places can exist and not exist at the same time, and yet shape us - Czechoslovakia is the best example of that."

The performance is not based on text and spoken word; Czech, Slovak, English and Spanish will be heard.
