Terne Čhave

Terne Čhave is one of the oldest and most successful Czech Romani bands. Since the 1980s, they have performed at major and smaller festivals at home and toured much of Europe - from Poland, Slovakia and Hungary through Italy, Spain, France, the Benelux countries and Germany to England and Scotland.

Unlike bands that stick to classical Romani folklore, Terne Čhave constantly expand their sound. Their music brings together rock, folk, ska, blues, jazz, funk and world music - plus street energy. Romani identity shines through in distinctive melodies and Romani-language lyrics that sing about the place of Romani people in a changing world, the search for one's own path and identity, but also about money, work and food (halušky). The lyrics come from their own experiences and stories, without cliché or pretension.

The band itself resists pigeonholing their style - and when you listen, you won't have time for such analysis anyway, because most songs move at a breakneck pace. They call it Romani rock'n'roll, or ROM'N'ROLL.
