Hradcany Bastions
zastávka Královský letohrádek, Prague
A walking tour of the district built directly on the filled-in Prague fortifications - visitors will learn how this neighbourhood developed and who was behind it. The architects who designed the district embraced the garden-city concept: family homes surrounded by small gardens in green spaces. However, the grand villa of Karel Kramář did not fit this scale, and Prague councillors were unhappy about it - they managed at least to limit the building's height and change the entrance orientation.
During the walk you will also see where Charlotte Garrigue Masaryková lived, after whom the local park is named, and learn how the Symbolist villa of František Bílek came to be and why it has a crescent shape.
