Architectural Excursions: Franz Pawlu Apartment

The apartment is located in an Art Nouveau-Baroque rental building near Konečného Square, built by builder Franz Pawlu in 1914-1915. At the end of the 1920s, Jewish architect Norbert Troller redesigned its interior for Pawlu's daughter Marie and her husband. Thanks to careful stewardship by descendants, the apartment has retained its original layout, including authentic furniture, stucco decoration, and stained glass - across 400 m².

The space opens to the public only exceptionally. This visit is part of the "Architectural Excursions" cycle, prepared by the Blanska City Gallery for 2026. The cycle traces the transformation of architecture in the first third of the 20th century through buildings in Brno and the surrounding area normally inaccessible to the public - from modernism with geometric Art Nouveau elements to functionalist form - and shows both the aesthetic shift and cultural-social changes reflected in new materials, construction principles, and spatial solutions.
