Memento mori
Chrám sv. Bartoloměje v Kolíně, Kolín
A site-specific theatrical production by the JEDL theatre collective, created specifically for the spaces of Sedlec Cathedral.
In a place where a seven-hundred-year-old stonemason's touch on sandstone has not yet grown cold, an unlikely pair meets - a drunken, depressed church caretaker and an enthusiastic medievalist. She yearns to understand the past; he seeks an answer to how to come to terms with death. The cathedral answers them.
They find themselves in the midst of an ancient Feast of Fools, where the high mingles with the low, a beggar becomes a king, and a fool preaches from the pulpit. Ancient texts, dances of the dead, and grotesque sermons show how people once laughed in the face of mortality. The pair discovers that Memento mori points to a more important challenge - Memento vitae!
Remember death, so you do not forget to live.
The performance is not wheelchair accessible and is not suitable for persons with limited mobility.
