Listování - Love and Body

In one of his final works, Arnošt Lustig grapples with themes that run throughout his entire body of work - the incomprehensibility of the Nazi plan to exterminate Jews on one hand, and love of life and physicality on the other.

The main characters are young people full of physical desire: Gabriela Lágusová and Josef Reinisch, who experience their forbidden love in the Theresienstadt ghetto. Transport could arrive any day; they find solace only in each other and speak things they might never have said under other circumstances. The result is a story full of declarations of love and essayistic parables about the meaning of life.
